Lights, camera, action.  The stage was set for the biggest event ever hosted by Spectacle World – the Spring to Bling fundraiser evening on 7 November 2007.

On the 24th November 2007 Spectacle World turns 14 years old and with all the contributions we have made to the community over the years it is with great pleasure, pride and honor that we have been able to assist the children of the Athlone School of the Blind. An amazing R11 430.00 is going to be handed over to the principal, Mr Fischer.  The children are considered legally blind and we also assist with greatly subsidized eyewear  which helps them see life a little more clearly.  This eyewear is supplied within a week, where before they were waiting months for desperately needed spectacles.

The evening started off with the delightful sound of the Marimba band from the Athlone School of the Blind.  Chris Eksteen (ambassador of the South African Optometric Association) highlighted the importance of optometry in South Africa.  Lianne Smuts from 1st Solutions delivered a delightful talk on how to wear Bling in Summer, after which Bling accessories were auctioned.

A fashion show then followed, highlighting the latest trends in eyewear as released in Milan, Italy.  It is a first where the latest, complete range of designer frames has been presented and where the trends have been explained.  The latest styles complement the modern and sophisticated person and complete the wardrobe.  At Spectacle World, face shape, skin tone, the distance between the pupils, prescription, optical needs, lens material as well as lifestyle is all taken into consideration when assisting with frame choice.

Various health professionals gave talks on most interesting topics (Dr. Bronn, Martin Mesler, Dr Nel) and Gert du Plessis from Cape Consumers informed guests on how to earn a bonus every time you shop.

One of the highlights of the evening was an auction of pieces of art made by the learners of the Athlone School of the Blind.

The phenomenal success of the evening paved the way for many more annual fundraisers to come.  Spectacle World – Eye care, We care.
